Where we stayed: Kimpton Palladian Hotel, Best Western Plus Vintage Valley Inn

We’ve been to Seattle a few times but always just did the tourist things like Space Needle, the MoPOP (formerly known as the EMP, and Pike Place Market, but this time around, we tried to explore a bit deeper. We stayed at the Kimpton Palladian Hotel, which was a nice boutique hotel fairly central to downtown Seattle. We loved the stay itself, the rooms were beautiful, and the style was super cool. We had a very strange experience at the hotel restaurant (for breakfast) after they had seated us at the bar they wouldn't take our Nexus cards and demanded our passports. We had them in our car, so it didn't take long to retrieve them, but it was overall strange, and we were put off by the whole experience. If you're going, take your passports.

We went for drinks at the Deep Dive Bar. The bar is located in the basement of the Amazon Spheres. Super cool small bar with tons of cool cocktails, so worth the hype (go there, it’s worth it). We also ate at Zane + Wylie’s Seattle Steakhouse, which was pretty cool, the service was super friendly. We walked around the Pioneer Square area, which was very cool, we had a few macaroons at Lady Yum, which has a lot of cool desserts, pastries, and a few drinks too!

We drove three hours from Seattle to Cowiche Canyon Kitchen + Ice House, a restaurant in Yakima. We were going to Central Washington to surprise one of Marika’s old friends at her baby shower. We knew a few people in town for the Craft Beer Festival, and they had invited us to tag along. The whole area in central Washington has a huge craft beer scene and is known for its massive hops farms out there.

The Cowiche Canyon Kitchen restaurant was amazing. The food was delicious, and the restaurant esthetic was beautiful. We sat out on the patio and would recommend this place ten times out of ten. I get hungry thinking about it. We were only in town for one night, but we got to experience a few cool things in that area.

We visited the Two Mountain Winery, which is technically in the town of Zillah. It was a gorgeous winery with a great wine tasting. We wished we had more time to explore and visit more wineries; there are so many. While Marika was at the baby shower, one of Marika’s friends took me to Varietal Beer Company, a local brewery, and again I was blown away with just how many cool wineries and breweries are in this area.

This has become a place we will frequent, a six-hour drive and all.
